Learning to draw means learning about the fundamentals of drawing, the tools used for drawing as well as taking it upon yourself to practice what you learn.

In Mike's drawing for beginners class, we’ll go over the elements like the basic line, shape & form, tonal value, perspective and color. We’ll start with drawing simple shapes and keep moving forward, adding shading and perspective. We’ll then carry these skills into learning how to draw still life setups, landscapes, people and faces. Understanding these elements will give the average budding artist the confidence to learn how to draw better.

You’ll be asked to have a sketchbook, drawing pencils and a drawing eraser (no pink erasers). There will be drawing homework each week to keep honing your skills.

Students should purchase the following supplies: sketchbook 9 X 12 or bigger; HB or #2 pencils; 4, 5, or 6B pencils; white eraser or preferably a kneaded eraser (no pink erasers); if possible: charcoal (vine charcoal and charcoal pencil)  Here's a link to a drawing set you can order if you want.
